Enjoyment (in moderation)

Enjoy your life. That's pretty much the ultimate goal, right? But we can't do that 24/7 UNLESS we learn to find the joy in everything. Because in order to enjoy time off, we must work. In order to enjoy health, we must exercise. In order to enjoy love, we must experience loss. I may not fully enjoy working out in that moment, but I enjoy the extra energy and well being it gives me. So in a way, I do enjoy it, I just have to remember to enjoy it in the moment. This is where mindfulness comes into play. The more fully immersed you are in the moment, the easier it becomes to find the joy. I hope you all have a joyful day and many joyful moments.

So good and straightforward yet so hard. Why is that? It's like we're conditioned to want more and more and we keep postponing what the "joy" will be.. first it's when I lose 5 pounds, then we lose the 5 lbs but we postpone the "joy" for when we get back into the size 2s we wore in high school and then we get there and it's about when we will finally not be so dang pale. If only I could be tan we think, or have better teeth or better hair etc. Etc.
If we did what you just suggested- to be mindful and fully immerse ourselves in the moment we would be so genuinely happy we couldn't stand it. Why is it so hard?

Look at your child. He lives in the moment doesn't he? He finds the joy. It's hard for adults because it is taught out of us. We are taught to worry about the future. And while it is important to plan, we take it too far. Ignorance is bliss, but when we learn to worry, we can unlearn it too. We just have to be willing to put in the work.
